01. DRILLING POST HOLES
We drill holes for: decks, patios, privacy walls, fence posts, pergolas, sheds, clothesline poles, trees and more. We dig the holes and pour the concrete, level, align, and plumb your posts and/or footings and we run string lines in accordance to the hole locations marked by the customer, ensuring footings are aligned.
We are equipped with a tri-pod auger/bobcat/mini-excavator and many manual digging tools and smashing bars. Our trained team and equipment can handle all types of jobs. We will ensure posts are installed straight and built to last, which will add value to your property.
02. DECK EXTENSIONS & FOOTINGS
If you are building a deck, pergola, arbour, shed or even a home extension, we can dig and set a variety of footing sizes and requirements.
As well, we can set and fill the Sonotubes (cardboard tube forms of different sizes and heights available) and set the post brackets in the cement. Another option is that we can install Pylex helical piles (screw piles/anchors). We will provide the concrete.
03. FENCE INSTALLS & REPAIRS
If you are building a fence, save yourself the back-breaking labour with our post hole digging services. We can dig and set all kinds of fence posts (ie. pressure treated, wrought iron, chain link or vinyl). We dig the hole, then place the post into the hole, pour the concrete and set the posts. We will ensure the posts are aligned and plumb so that they are all ready for you to build your fence.
If you need to replace the fence posts, we will drill next to the old post holes. We will provide the concrete for both of these services, but the client must provide the posts themselves.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does your company use to dig the holes?
We have various auger machines that fit just about anywhere. Our machines are motorized walk-behind augers. They weigh about 2,000lb and have rubber tracks – making them very turf friendly. We also have clam shell diggers, shovels, and other tools needed for hand digging if necessary.
How much room do i need for the machine to access the job site?
Our smallest machine is 36″ wide, so we would need a minimum of 36″ clearance with no steep slope or stairs to access the dig site.
Will the machine cause damage to my lawn or property?
Our machines have rubber tracks, which will not cause damage to your lawn. However, if the ground is wet from rain, it may leave some tread-marks in the grass. As well, we cannot drive on freshly set concrete pathways. If you are concerned about damage to your property we recommend to supply a few sheets of plywood for us to drive on which will minimize the impact to your lawn.
What does the client need to provide?
We will supply labour to dig the holes and we will supply the concrete to set the posts / footings. Client is responsible to provide the posts (for fence posts). As well, if you need us to mark the location of the posts, client must supply the land survey or stakes marking the property line.
What are locates and do i need them?
Locates are reports that indicate where all underground utility wires run on your property. It is mandatory in Quebec, whenever you are digging, to have this valid paperwork on site. It is the responsibility of the homeowner or contractor to request safety clearance from Info-Excavation. We will review your documents for security and compliance.
How do i get locates?
Locates are easily acquired by calling Info-Excavation, a private company that works with many organizations that have their services underground. This is a free service and usually takes 5 -7 business days to complete. Locates can be requested on the phone if you wish to speak with a representative.
I am replacing an existing deck/fence. Do i still need locates?
Yes, you would still need to get locates even if you are replacing a deck or fence because we cannot be sure how the holes were dug previously and we cannot assume this responsibility. As it is mandatory to have valid locates before digging anywhere in Quebec we do require them on every job site.
What type of cement do you use?
We use regular Portland cement concrete/stone mix. All concrete is hand mixed on site, ensuring the proper mix and solid embedment of the posts on every job.
How long do i have to wait after the post or footing installation before i can start project?
We recommend waiting at least 48 hours before starting any work on your deck or fence. For best results, especially if it has been raining and damp, it is recommended that you wait up to 36 hours before putting any significant weight on deck footings.
What areas do you service?
We service the Greater Montreal Area: Montreal island, Vaudreuil-Soulanges and South Shore.
If building a fence, who will provide the property boundaries?
The homeowner is responsible for providing the property boundaries. Normally the homeowner receives a land survey with the purchase of their house. This survey can be used to map out the property line.
Does your company build decks and fences or just dig the post holes?
Our contractors are fully licensed and equipped to do both post hole digging as well as build the actual fence and/or deck.
How many people should i expect on site and how long will the job take?
Normally there will be a crew of 3-4 people on site. There will be one person digging on the auger and 2-3 workers that assist with the digging and installing the posts. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing exactly how long each job will take as there are many factors that could affect the amount of time it takes to dig.
Why should i choose Fence Post Pro to do the job?
At Fence Post Pro, we take pride in the work we do and it is reflected by the service that you receive. From the initial estimate until after the job is done, we will be upfront and diligent with you. Once we book the appointment, we will send you a confirmation email or text with the estimate and all the information you need to know to ensure everything goes smoothly. We will follow up with you before the appointment to confirm all the details. When the crew comes onsite, they will explain all the important information you need to know so that you feel comfortable and we will not leave until you are happy with the work. Even after the work is done, we will follow up with you to ensure you were happy with the work.
What should i expect when Fence Post Pro leaves?
We will always clean up after ourselves when we leave, however, there will be evidence that we were there doing work. We will also leave any dirt or debris that we pull out of the ground on site. The homeowner is responsible for the removal of any dirt, posts, concrete, rocks, roots, etc.
